The Equalizer Season 5 Premiere Date Revealed

A real-world injury just forcedThe Equalizerto feature a major change. ThoughThe Equalizerseason 6has not yet been confirmed, season 5 is continuing its story without concern for its future. Robyn’s team has become a massive draw for CBS, which is even considering introducing a spin-off show. With so much success, the show’s stars should feel somewhat comfortable that they will still have work by the end of this year. The show has seen five seasons in just four years, which is a sign of CBS' reliance on it.

Unfortunately, not everything about the show has been stable. In an interview withScreen Rant’s Rachel Foertsch, Adam Goldberg (Harry) opened up about a surprising change to his character. BecauseGoldberg hurt his wrist in a motorcycle crash, Harry appears in a cast in season 5, episodes 5 and 6. The show blames the injury on carpal tunnel surgery, but the true reason was a real-world incident that left Goldberg in agony. Check out his explanation below:

A year ago, I broke my wrist in a motorcycle accident and I had to get a second surgery this year because it just didn’t fix it. And so I talked to [showrunnerJoseph C. Wilson],and I was like, “Dude, I’ve got to get another surgery. I am in terrible pain. When can I relax a little bit? When can I get the surgery?”

And he was like, “After 5x04.” I know that right after 5x04 wrapped, I went and got the surgery, and then for two episodes you’ll see me in a cast, and it’s because Harry got carpal tunnel surgery. But in reality, Adam got motorcycle accident injury surgery.

What Harry’s Cast Means For The Equalizer Season 5

Losing The Team’s Hacker Is A Massive Problem

Harry is the designated hacker for Robyn’s team, which means that the star is regularly sitting behind a computer screen. He provides essential support for Robyn, but he needs to use his arms to do it. That makes carpal tunnel surgery a believable excuse, but the cast will likely be a barrier to conducting research in the coming episodes. Goldberg indicated thatit will only last for two episodes, so it may not be a consistent issue, but it could play some small role going forward.

Aside fromThe Equalizer, Goldberg has starred inOnce Upon a Time in Venice(2017),The Exorcism(2024), and theTakenTV show.

The injury itself is stunning, considering thatHarry’s undercover mission in season 5involved him masquerading as a guitar player. Goldberg is also a musician in real life, but attempting to play the part of a guitarist, despite a broken wrist, is proof of his serious commitment to his craft. Goldberg even contributed the music for the episode by pre-recording his performance. Goldberg was in “terrible pain”, but he supported the show all the same. It is a shocking revelation, butit also speaks to Goldberg’s dedication.

Our Take On Harry’s Season 5 Injury

The Inclusion Was An Intelligent Way To Disguise The Surgery

Carpal tunnel surgery wasa brilliant way to disguise Goldberg’s surgery, but it would be nice to see it fully sewn into the story. A lasting arc about Robyn losing her hacker would be fascinating, especially considering that he has enjoyed a more prominent role in season 5.The Equalizer’s ensemble castis a significant reason that the show has survived through season 5, and focusing on that cast could help take some of the pressure off of Queen Latifah. Regardless, the clever writing made the cast a natural inclusion and covered for what easily could have been a distraction.
