The now infamouspost-credits scenein the final episode ofDragon Ball Daimais so memorable in part because it’s filled to the brim with comedic moments. This includes Goku’s discovery of a whole bottle full ofEvil Third Eyesat a shop he visited earlier on in the series, which would have made the final battle against Gomah much shorter if he had bought them then. But there’s a much subtler moment that, while weirdly gross on its own, actually introduces a random plot holewhen put into context withDragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Of course, the vast majority ofDragon Ball’s fandom undoubtedly would have preferred a more informative post-credits scene that explained away or, at the very least, addressed theone inconsistency that now plaguesDaima. Near the end, it is revealed that Goku can not only go Super Saiyan 4 but do so on his own, which is problematic because he doesn’t transform or even reference it during the later events ofDragon Ball Super.Daimacould have provided some type of explanation, but that obviously never happened.

Bulma’s Excitement Over the Beaut Bugs in Dragon Ball Daima Is More Unsettling Than Fans Realize
It’s Not Just An Effective Build Up From Bulma’s Earlier Desire to Stay in Kid Form
Instead, shrewd fans got a scene that connects to a moment inDragon Ball Super: Super Hero. InDaima, Bulma initially recoils in disgust when she sees a jar full of gross bugs at the store where Goku finds the aforementioned jar of Evil Third Eyes. But her outlook takes a drastic turn when the store clerk informs her that some of them are called Beaut Bugs, which she says will make her skin supple by de-aging it by 10 years. Bulma is so enthused at the prospect thatshe enthusiastically offers to buy an entire barrel of them.
At first, this moment might just feel like a way to underscore Bulma’s obsession with looking young. If anything, it effectively builds upon an earlier scene when Bulma conveys a desire to stay in kid form, since her skin looks so much younger. However, it also evokes one of the requests she later makes of Shenron duringSuper Herowhen shewishes the eternal dragon to remove her wrinkles. Although this might suggest thatDaima’s interpretation of Bulma stays true to her portrayal in other storylines, there’s a more stunning interpretation that fans must consider.

Bulma Must Have Eaten All Those Beaut Bugs by Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
Bulma Wished To Remove Her Wrinkles, and Would Not Have Needed Them with the Beaut Bugs
Although there’s no definitive proof that Bulma actually bought the whole barrel of Beaut Bugs, it can be assumed thatshe managed to purchase them from the store clerk. If she did and still makes the wish inSuper Hero, then it means that she had to haveeaten through all of the Beaut Bugs by then. Bulma would never have made the wish for Shenron to remove her wrinkles if she still had the Beaut Bugs, since the act of removing the wrinkles on her face involves making her skin look younger, which the Beaut Bugs remedy.
AlthoughSuper Herotakes place years later, there are clearly a lot of bugs in the barrel that Bulma likely bought. It would still be a daunting feat to eat that amount even over that span of time. At first, this definitely comes across as a little revolting, just because it would have required her to eat all of them. However, this realization is also tragic. The fear of aging among women is such a ubiquitous trope that the more it’s used, the more depressing it becomes.
AlthoughDaima’s post-credits scene makes light of the situation through comedy, it’s still sad to see a woman trying to fight the inevitable, especially in Bulma’s case, since she’s taken more than one action in the pursuit thereof. The fact that Bulma initially thought the bugs were disgusting only underscores just how desperate she must be to remain young.Dragon Ball Daimamay have never intended this interpretation, but it definitely comes across, adding a whole new atmosphere to what was initially just supposed to be an absurd moment.
