Warner Bros. Games announced thatMultiVersuswill be shutting down indefinitely, but players who purchased the $100 Founders Pack feel scammed. The Founders Pack, also known as the Premium Edition of the title, included 30 Character Tokens for players to use to unlock new characters that were released. With the announcement of the shutdown, players were only able to use 12 of the 30 tokens given with the premium edition.
A Reddit post fromRockmanBNstates that only 12 characters have been released since launch, making the majority of their Character Tokens rendered useless. The post also mentions there were several free characters released, which also ended up making Character Tokens a bit less useful at the time. TheMultiVersuscommunity has chimed in to discuss the issue, but some mention that legally, WB is not obligated to refund anyone due to them promising 30 Character Tokens which players received.

MultiVersus Players Feel Scammed & Played
But Legally, WB Is In The Right
MultiVersuswill be shut down after its fifth season, meaning that the live-action fighter will no longer be receivingany new charactersor updates. Those who purchased the Founders Pack wereunable to redeem all the rewards they claimed with their purchase before the cancelation of the title, which, of course, has caused a bit of an uproar. The issue lies within the fine print, as there were characters to purchase with the Character Tokens while the game was still live.
MultiVersus Is Shutting Down After “Careful Consideration”, Receiving One Final Update
Warner Bros.’ crossover platform fighter, MultiVersus, has announced its impending shutdown after its current season. Here’s what to expect.
The original poster mentions that back in the day, gold was “much more generous”,meaning players could use in-game currency to purchase the majority of thecharacters on the roster. That meant that they did not need to use the Tokens given from the Premium Edition at that time, but WB still gave the Character Tokens as an option which the OG Poster did not utilize. Though a lot agree this is unfair, as they were saving up the Tokens for future character additions, WB has not done any wrong in this aspect, as the rewards were given out fairly with the purchase. That does not mean it is any less hurtful to those who bought the extra tokens.

Our Take: Should Players Be Refunded Due To MultiVersus Shutting Down?
Legally, No
Warner Bros. Games technically fulfilled their promises with the bundle, even though it may seem unfair to most. I do agree that maybe those who purchased the bundle and have leftover tokensshould be given some form of compensation for the shutdown, as they were saving the tokens for future updates that are no longer coming.
At the time of writing, WB said that the title would remain offline for the “foreseeable future”, meaning someday, it could make a comeback. Season five will conclude on May 30, which does leave a bit of time for players to enjoyMultiVersusjust a bit longer before it disappears into the ether for an unknown amount of time.
