Despite receiving popular reception from critics upon its initial release,Diablo 4is not without its faults, and its struggles continue into the game’s sixth post-launch season of new content. The updates to the Paragon Board for Season 6 are a point of contention, as many assert the Board is underwhelming. Additionally, the benefits of many of its Nodes and Glyphs are essentially nonexistent.

The Paragon Board is unlocked once players reach level 50 in the game. Once the Paragon Board is unlocked, players earn Paragon Points, which they, in turn, can use to fill in Nodes on the Board, which are then used to unlock other Nodes tied to abilities, stats, or points. Using the Nodes, the player ultimately has a very confusing and complicated gaming experience that results in little tangible progress, and works againstDiablo’s power fantasygameplay. Digging into the Nodes, the specific rewards are not worth the time it takes to earn them through them.

Diablo 4’s Paragon Board Nodes Are Busy Work That Feels Unrewarding To Players

Normal, Magical, & Rare Paragon Nodes

The nodes break down into different categories: Normal Paragon Nodes, Magical Paragon Nodes, Rare Paragon Nodes, or Legendary Paragon Nodes. As a Reddit post from useryxalitisbreaks down, these Nodes are all essentially wasting players' time. The post states,“Most Nodes are ‘filler’ Nodes that consume points simply to path to the actual Nodes you want.”This means that filling in the Nodes with points only allows players to unlock another Node that is actually useful, filling the game with objectives that only reward the player with meaningless character progression.

There is also a considerable disparity between the classes when it comes to the rewards. The Reddit post points out how some classes are full of Legendary or Rare Nodes, while other classes are focused solely on getting the most Glyphs, which increases bonuses or special effects. When a player does have Glyphs, they are difficult to access, and it’s a time-consuming effort to figure out which one is needed.

“Essentially A Brand New Diablo Game”: The Best New Features Confirmed For Diablo 4 2.0

Diablo 4 is gearing up to make some major changes with its 2.0 update, and some players are hailing it as a brand-new game, in a positive way.

The Redditor notes how the Glyphs are organized “by level, then alphabetically, with a meaningless graphic that I’m sure no one memorises, so we have to resort to mousing over every one looking for the one we want.” This whole effort, from collecting the Nodes or Glyphs to utilizing them is frustrating, complicated, and a waste of the players’ time.

How Diablo 4 Can Improve The Current Paragon Board

Reorganizing Nodes' Structure

One of the main ideas for improvement isremoving a majority of the points when players are earning Nodes, and making the pathing to earning Nodes clear and more concise. The goal behind this is to make earning Nodes easier and more rewarding. As yxalitis notes in their post, “That way you achieve the same result, with far fewer Nodes, and in a far more intuitive, logical, and less cluttered view.” This would also help with the busy work the game assigns the players that take up so much of gameplay but garner little results.

Another suggestion says Glyphs need to be reworked, as the current progression system makes no sense and shows little benefit. One of the ways to address this is to have “Glyph Node surrounded by Magic Nodes, then Rare Nodes, then Legendary Nodes, that are improved as you level.” This new system would create a more logical flow to attaining benefits.

Diablo 4 Is Finally Getting One Of Diablo 2’s Best Mechanics

A year after its release, Blizzard confirms that Diablo 4 is gaining one of the community’s most beloved mechanics that dates back to Diablo 2.

The post also addresses howDiablo 4currently handles classes and Nodes, claiming it needs reworks across the board. The Legendary Nodes should be available to every class and be similar in power, in an effort to improve gameplay overall. There is no notable reason why Legendary Nodes are more available to some classes than others, which leads to much more frustrating gameplay overall. With these minor tweaks and updates, players could have a much more enjoyable experience. This ideal playthrough would not only allow for more rewards, but also a more logical path to attaining these awards.

These Improvements Could Help Repair The Frustrations Players Are Facing With D4

Paragon Board Is Holding The Game Back

The Paragon Board is far from ideal, with many aspects that can be improved, ranging from minor to major. The argument is that these updates do not go far enough and, in some instances, ultimately make the game worse. Players cannot gain progress through the Paragon Board in a feasible way, and so a lot of the game feels like prolonged busy work that takes away from the focus of the game. Additionally, once a player is able to push through the task, the rewards are all tied to benefits that hardly justify the effort, like minimal stat boosts. As an ongoing game,Diablo 4still has a chance to correct its shortcomings, and altering the Paragon Board would be a great next step.
