The Shard of Verathiel is one of fifteennew Unique items inDiablo 4: Season 5. As mentioned byGame Rant, the sword is obtainedthrough participation in the seasonal event, Infernal Hordes. To unlock Infernal Hordes, you’ll have to progress through the season’s main quest line, which includes the quests “The Eyes of the Enemy” and “To the Edge of the Abyss.” Once that’s done, you’ll need to find an Infernal Compass, which will open a portal to Hell and allow you to battle the Infernal Hordes.
The Shard of Verathiel is one of many possible loot drops available as you fight in the Infernal Hordes. There’s no way to guarantee that this weapon will appear over the other seasonal items, but as you battle more and more Infernal Hordes, you should eventually stumble across this excellent sword.
Best Offensive Aspects For The Shard Of Verathiel
General & Class Specific
The Shard of Verathiel is designed with various builds and play styles in mindand holds a specific love for basic skills. While there are countless builds across the five classes available in Season 5 (and likely many opportunities to use this sword with the upcomingSpiritborn Class inDiablo 4), if you want to heighten the Shard of Verathiel’s unique ability, there are a few Offensive Aspects you may apply to it.
Aspect of the Expectant
General
Attacking enemies with a Basic Skill increases the damage of your next Core Skill cast by (5-10)%, up to 30%.
Aspect of the Moonrise
Damaging an enemy with a Basic Skill grants you 4% Attack Speed for 10 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. Upon reaching maximum stacks, you enter a Vampiric Bloodrage, gaining 40 - 80% Basic Skill damage and 15% Movement Speed for 10 seconds.
Aspect of Encroaching Wrath
Barbarian
After spending 100 Fury, your next Weapon Mastery Skill deals (40-60)% increased damage.
Raw Might Aspect
Druid
After you hit 15 enemies with any Shapeshifting Skills, your next Werebear Skill will deal (40-55)% more damage and Stun enemies for 3 seconds.
Runeworker’s Conduit Aspect
Critical Strikes with Storm skills that you cast charge the air around you for 3 seconds, causing a Lightning Bolt to periodically hit an enemy in the area for (250 - 350% Weapon Damage) Lightning damage. Your Lightning Bolts deal 20 - 40% increased damage.
Crashstone Aspect
Earth Skills deal (40-50)% more Critical Strike Damage to Crowd Controlled enemies.
Shattered Spirit’s Aspect
Necromancer
Casting Bone Spirit also launches 18 Bone Splinters in all directions, dealing x200-400% increased damage and generating 6 Essence per enemy hit.
Rotting Aspect
Decompose can chain and burst up to 2 additional targets. Explosions from Decompose deals 15-30% increased damage.
Aspect of Swelling Curse
Bone Spirit’s Critical Strike Chance is increased by +(15–25%). Your Maximum Essence is increased by 2 for each enemy hit for 15 seconds.
Aspect of Artful Initiative
Rogue
When you spend 75 Energy, you release a cluster of exploding Stun Grenades that deal Physical damage and Stun enemies for 0.5 seconds. Your Grenade Skills deal 25-40% more damage.
Aspect of Pestilent Points
Every third cast of Puncture is Poison Imbued with (100%-150)% of normal potency.
The three general Aspects listed above are some of the best for the Shard of Verathiel, asthey directly boost all Basic Skills. There are some other Aspects across four of the five Classes that, if added to the Shard of Verathiel, could connect to a build that uses those Basic Skills, such as Puncture or the Druid’s Shapeshifting, Storm, and Earth abilities, as a base for a stronger kit.
Other Aspects, meanwhile, prey on a Class’s Primary Resource, like Essence or Energy, and celebrate the extra cost associated with the Shard of Verathiel. Regardless of which Offensive Aspect you want to pair with this weapon, it’s excellent for any character inDiablo 4: Season 5.
