Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter #430

Summary

My Hero Academia’s timeskip epilogue gave Deku a new career as a teacher at UA, and while many fans may be let down that the story didn’t end with Deku as the #1 hero, this ending is actually a far more fitting one for Deku’s character than it might appear at first. Deku’s personality and skill set are actually the perfect fit for a hero teacher.

My Hero Academia’s final chapterfeatures an 8-year time skip, putting Deku and his classmates at around 25 years old. Boosted by their accomplishments during the final war and their excellent education at UA, almost all of Deku’s classmates made it as pro heroes, but with the remaining power of One for All having faded long ago, hero work didn’t seem to be in Deku’s future. Deku instead opted to become a teacher at UA, and has some familiar faces like young Kota in his class.

Deku explains why he feels sharing his experience with students is satisfying.

Deku makes it clear that while he misses doing hero work, he’s perfectly satisfied with his new career, shaping the heroes of tomorrow.

Deku is the Perfect Choice to Be a Hero Teacher at UA

Deku’s Skills and Knowledge Make Him an Excellent Teacher

Deku has always had an analytical side to him, as evidenced by his constant notetaking in his younger years, trying to analyze heroes and figure out how they’re able to do what they do.This is an excellent trait to have as a Hero Course teacher, as it gives him a lot of experience at evaluating Quirks and figuring out how to use them in inventive ways.It allows him to critique his students and offer them suggestions as to how to improve, just like a teacher should. This is even evidenced in the chapter when Deku runs into young Dai, and begins analyzing his Quirk and how he could use it on the spot.

Deku also has something that no one else alive has: experience with wielding a wide variety of Quirks. Deku’s personal experience as a hero student saw him usingall the different Quirks within One for All, which range from ranged attacks like Blackwhip to utility abilities like Smokescreen. No one on Earth is better equipped to help young students with their Quirks than someone who has experienced how several different abilities can work, allowing him to offer the kind of advice that only an adept wielder of a similar power can. Deku also witnessed the journeys of his friends and how they’ve improved their Quirks over the years, giving further ideas for improvement.

my hero academia anime poster TLDR vertical

While the prospect of Deku as a teacher didn’t really come up in the story before this, it really is an excellent fit for the skills and experience that Deku gained throughout his time as a hero. Although the chapter may have ended with Deku receiving a super suit and allowing him to do hero work again, there’s no reason to think Deku has any intention of abandoning his career as a UA teacher; after all, most UA teachers double as pro heroes, so that just makes Deku more typical of a teacher. By the end ofMy Hero Academia, Deku is in the perfect position, able to influence the future generation of Heroes as a teacher while still making a difference in the short term with his hero work.
