The White Lotusstar Meghann Fahy has discussed the possibility of reprising her role while atNew York Comic Con. The HBO dramedy is an anthology where each season takes place in a different location of the titular fictional luxury resort, including Hawai’i, Italy, and Thailand. Generally, each season features a different ensemble cast, but precedent has been set for character returns when Jennifer Coolidge reprised her season 1 role as Tanya McQuoid in season 2. The upcomingWhite Lotusseason 3is also set to feature the return of Natasha Rothwell as season 1 staff member Belinda Lindsey.

During New York Comic Con,Screen Ranthad the opportunity to sit down with Meghann Fahy, who played Cameron Sullivan’s (Theo James) duplicitous wife Daphne in season 2 ofThe White Lotus. While she said she would “never say never,” she reflected thatshe feels “really good” about the character’s journeyand where her arc landed at the end of season 2, indicating that she would rather not return even though “I think about her a lot.” Read Fahy’s full quote below:

I feel really good about her journey. I love that character so much, and I mean, never say never, obviously. But no, I feel like she’s good. She’s in a good place. I think about her a lot.

What This Means For Daphne’s White Lotus Future

Her Return Is Unlikely

Generally, the impression that Fahy’s quote gives is twofold. First, she does not seem to have a special interest in returningtotheWhite Lotuscast. Second, it seems to indicate that she has not yet been invited back for any future seasons, which could potentially indicate that there are not currently any plans for her to do so. Given the fact that nearly two dozen cast members have already been announced for season 3, it seems unlikely that she is among them.

The White Lotusseason 3 ensemble includes Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

One other factor that could prevent Daphne’s return is Fahy’s schedule. Since bringing her character’s arc to a satisfying conclusion intheWhite Lotusseason 2 ending, the star has taken on many additional projectsand been set to appear in even more. This includes holding roles opposite Melissa Barrera inYour Monsterand Nicole Kidman inThe Perfect Couple, as well as appearing in such upcoming titles as the Christopher Landon-directed mystery thrillerDrop, the Zachary Levi dramaThe Unbreakable Boy, and Netflix’s Julianne Moore comedy seriesSirens.

Our Take On Fahy’s White Lotus Comments

Daphne’s Absence May Be For The Best

Ultimately, it is probably for the best that Daphne does not return toThe White Lotus. While having returning characters appear in future seasons helps keep the show feeling like it takes place in a consistent universe, having too many returns at once would undermine its anthology premise and its realism. Maintaining a constantly shifting ensemble is also probably best for the longevity of the show, meaning that the continuation of future seasons does not depend on the return of any particular star.
