TheDungeons & Dragonscampaign setting, Eberron, has become one of its most popular worlds since its first publication in 2004, after its creator Keith Baker won a Wizards of the Coast fan contest. Despite its popularity, there hasn’t been a lot ofofficial Eberron contentinD&D5e from theEberron: Rising from the Last Warsourcebook in 2019 and a few digital offerings. That’s set to change in 2025, as WotC has announced a new sourcebook,Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, coming in 2025.
The new book will be compatible with the 2024Player’s Handbookandbrings new Eberron-specific backgrounds and feats. It will also have changes to Dragonmarks, and a new subclass for the popular Artificer.Forge of the Artificerisn’t a campaign book, but it will feature some adventures that can be compiled into a campaign if a DM wishes.

Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins to Leave Dungeons & Dragons' Design Team
The two guiding forces of Dungeons & Dragons for the past decade are both stepping away from the game, Screen Rant has learned exclusively.
That meansEberron: Forge of the Artificeris not a full adventure book likeCurse of Strahdbut a companion book toRising from the Last War.It is not meant to be a replacement for the 2019 book and is intended to be used alongside it, so players can choose which new pieces of content they want to include in their games. The new book will also featurethree sample adventures titled “Sharn Inquisitives,” “Dragonmark Intrigue,” and “Morgrave Expeditions.“These will use the adventure prep outline featured in the 2024Dungeon Master’s Guideand can be expanded by players to create longer campaigns.

Artificer Updates, New Species, Backgrounds, & Feats
Brand New Subclass And Changes To Dragonmarks
Rising from the Last Waris most famous for introducing the Warforged race and the Artificer class toD&D 5e.Forge of the Artificerwillre-introduce the Artificer class to 5e in 2025 with changes to its four current subclasses and the addition of a new Cartographer subclass. All the new Artificer changes were available to playtest throughD&D’sUnearthed Arcana, and you’re able to still see them onD&D Beyond. There are likely to be some changes between the Unearthed Arcana and the final Artificer rules inForge of the Artificerwhen it releases, however.
After Seeing D&D’s New Unearthed Arcana, I’m Convinced We’re Returning To This Fan-Favorite Setting In October
Dungeons & Dragons just released a new Unearthed Arcana playtest that heavily hints at a return to the Ravenloft campaign setting in October.
Previously, Artificers focused on metal-focused tinkering, like Artillerists and Armorers, or on healing as Alchemists. The Cartographer subclass is instead focused on movement and scouting, using their artisan tools to create maps and spell scrolls. The Dragonmark system is unique to Eberron, and traditionally was tied to a character’s race during character creation.

Now,withForge of the Artificer, players can instead choose their Dragonmark at a later level with the new 2024 Feats system. Alongside the returning Warforged,Forge of the Artificernow recognizes Khoravar as its own species. They were previously considered half-elves inRising from the Last War.In total, the new book promises 40 player options and lists five revised species, 18 backgrounds, and 28 feats as points of appeal.
New Bastion Options & More Content Coming To Eberron In 2025
Eberron-Specific Content For The New D&D Systems
The 2024Player’s Handbookintroduced theBastion system inD&D 5e, which is a set of rules made for players to obtain and manage their own base of operations in a campaign. It’s a large, potentially complex system that is still in its early stages, and it will become more fleshed-out with future sourcebooks likeForge of the Artificer.
The upcoming book will have new Bastion content that works with the Eberron setting, although we haven’t seen exactly what that contains. Wizards of the Coast also teased at the press event that there will be expanded rules for airships inForge of the Artificer, a mechanic that is very popular in Eberron’s low-magic setting with a focus on technology.

Long-time Eberron fans should also be encouraged by the fact that the world’s designer, Keith Baker, has been working with WotC as a consultant forForge of the Artificer.
AlthoughForge of the Artificerdoesn’t contain a campaign, it does containthree “genre-based campaigntemplates.“These focus on “fantasy noir, political thriller, and pulp adventure,” leaning into three concepts that can thrive in the Eberron setting. In conjunction, thebook introduces over 20 monstersthat will all be inspired by these campaign templates. New spells and magic items will also be available.
As one of the first books to follow the 2024 rules revisions and the first to be available at a lower price point,Eberron: Forge of the Artificercould be a major part of determining the future ofD&D, so it’s worth keeping an eye on even for those who aren’t Eberron fans. Thanks to the backward compatibility of the rules revisions, it could also be useful forDungeons & Dragonstables that are sticking to the 2014 rules, although features like bastions and class features built on the new background systems might be less applicable or require tweaks.
