Dungeons & Dragonshas a ton of new magic items thanks to the 2024Dungeon Master’s Guide. Set for wide release on August 02, 2025, the newDungeon Master’s Guidecontains an extensive chapter filled with magic items. The chapter on magic items not only includes rules on what each item does, it also contains rules on crafting magic items and making custom magic items. Other than the new bastion system, the magic item chapter is one of the biggest draws of the newDungeon Master’s Guide.
Similar to theDMG’s rule changeson character building rules and magic spells, many of the magic items in the new book have received either a rebalance or a rework. While most of the items in the2024Dungeon Master’s Guideare familiar to players, there are also several new magic items. Some of the items came from the 1980sDungeons & Dragonscartoon, while others are new creations appearing for the first time inDnD. Both DMs andDnDplayers will want to check out these new magic items, which are among the best in theDungeon Master’s Guide.

10Lute Of Thunderous Thumping
Weapon (Club), Very Rare
The Lute of Thunderous Thumping is a brand-new magic weapon made specifically for bards. The lute can be used as a magic club that deals an extra 2d8 thunder damage per hit. Bards that use this magic lute can use their Charisma modifier instead of their Strength modifier when attacking with the lute, provided that they sing or hum while making the attack.
Additionally, the Lute of Thunderous Thumping comes with the Slow weapon mastery property, which reduces a creature’s speed by 10 feet. While Bards don’t typically have access toDnD’s weapon mastery system, players can multiclass into a martial class to unlock this feature.

9Cube Of Summoning
Wondrous Item, Rare
The Cube of Summoning is a literal jack-in-the-box that summons various kinds of creatures. As a magic action, a player can wind the cube’s crank to open it,causing the cube to summon one of six types of creatures. Mechanically, the Cube of Summoning utilizesDnD’s summoning spells, with the cube casting one of the following spells at fifth level.

Summon Fey
DnD’s summoning spells got reworked as part of the 2024 rules refresh, with each spell utilizing a set statblock instead of a creature statblock from the Monster Manual. This helps keep the spells balanced and makes items like the Cube of Summoning a lot more fun for both players and DMs. The randomness of the Cube of Summoning keeps a bit of intrigue in using the magic item, but players shouldn’t be overwhelmed by whatever creature comes crawling out of the box.
8Energy Bow
Weapon (Longbow Or Shortbow), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)
The Energy Bow is Hank’s magic bow from the 1980sDungeons & Dragonscartoon. This magic weapon is not only a +1 magic bow that requires no ammunition, it also deals force damage instead of piercing damage. Each arrow shot by the bow also emits light.Players also have the option of firing several different kinds of magic arrows, including an Arrow of Restraint that restrains a target instead of damaging it, and an Arrow of Transport that can cause a willing creature to be transported within 10 feet of the Energy Bow’s user.
Players can also use the Energy Bow to create an Energy Ladder up to 60-feet long on walls. Obviously, most of the Energy Bow’s abilities are pulled from differentDnDcartoon plot lines, but this bow is still a versatile one even if players have never seen an episode of the cartoon.
7Hat Of Many Spells
Wondrous Item, Verry Rare (Requires Attunement By A Wizard)
Another item from the 80s cartoon, the Hat of Many Spells is worn by Presto. The hat can be used as a spellcasting focus for a wizard, butplayers can also use it to attempt to cast any spell from the wizard’s spell list, provided that the spell is of a level the player can currently cast, and the spell doesn’t have material components that cost more than 1,000 GP.
Once a spell is chosen, players expend a spell slot and make an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 10 plus the spell’s level. If players pass the check, the spell is cast without issue. If they fail, the player rolls on a complication table with effects that range from casting afireballspell instead to summoning a hostile swarm of bats. Once players attempt to cast a spell using the Hat of Many Spells, they can’t cast another one until a Short or Long Rest is finished.
6Thunderous Greatclub
Weapon (Greatclub), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)
The Thunderous Greatclub also hails from the classicDnDcartoon, a magic club wielded by Bobby. It increases a user’s Strength to 20 and also deals an additional 1d8 damage to any creature it hits. It also deals an additional 3d8 thunder damage to inanimate objects.
The Thunderous Greatclub also has two magical properties: it can create a cone of thunderous energy that knocks down any creature in the cone that fails on a Strength saving throw, and it is able to cause an earthquake that knocks down anyone in a 50-foot radius if they fail at a Dexterity saving throw. Both magical properties also deal damage to inanimate objects or structures, making this weapon a perfect choice for a barbarian that wants to deal maximum damage to their surroundings.
5Quarterstaff Of The Acrobat
Staff (Quarterstaff), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)
Diana uses the Quarterstaff of the Acrobat in theDnDcartoon, and not only is the staff a +2 weapon, it can also transform into a 10-foot long pole. The staff has several properties, granting its user advantage on Dexterity checks and giving players access to a reaction that increases a player’s Armor Class by five when targeted by an attack.
How D&D’s 2025 Monster Manual Is Doubling Down On Balance Changes
D&D’s 2024 rules revisions shifted the balance of the game in a couple of key ways, and the 2025 Monster Manual is officially going to follow suit.
Players can also throw the Quarterstaff, with the weapon flying back into their hand after they throw it. The Quarterstaff also has access to the Topple weapon mastery, which knocks a target prone if they fail on a Constitution saving throw. The Quarterstaff is a versatile weapon perfect for a rogue or a ranger.
4Wraps Of Unarmed Power
Wondrous Item, Varying Rarity
The Wraps of Unarmed Power are a new kind ofweapon made specifically for monksthat specialize in unarmed attacks. The wraps not only grant a flat bonus (ranging from +1 to +3 depending on the rarity) to both attack rolls and damage, they also change the unarmed attack’s damage type to force damage.
The Wraps of Unarmed Power are functionally a reworked version of the Wraps of Unarmed Prowess fromTheBook of Many Things, which served as one of the first ,onk-specific magic items in fifth edition. Generally speaking, monks have limited magic items inDungeons & Dragons,so these wraps provide some additional functionality to keep them up to speed with other classes.
3Shield Of The Cavalier
Armor (Shield), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)
The Shield of the Cavalier also hails fromDnD’s 80s cartoon, belonging to Eric, and is a +2 magic shield that can also be used as a weapon. Players can use it to make a Forceful Bash against an opponent that deals force damage on a hit and causes the creature to be pushed away and even knocked prone.
10 Tips For Playing D&D Online With A Group
New DMs and players alike should keep these ten tips in mind when starting a new D&D game in an online setting.
Players can also use the shield to create a protective field that blocks anything from entering or exiting it, provided that the player maintains concentration. Using the protective field, players can functionally cancel out an attack with a reaction, making the shield a powerful tool for any front-line fighter or paladin.
2Enspelled Armor
Armor (Any Light, Medium, Or Heavy), Varying Rarity (Requires Attunement)
Enspelled Armor is a new kind of armor that functionally contains a single spell that can be used over and over again. Every Enspelled Armor containsa spell of Abjuration or Illusion that can be cast up to six times per Long Rest.
The DM determines the type of armor and the spell level for the Enspelled Armor, meaning that the DM can choose whether to create Enspelled Leather Armor with Armor of Agathys for a warlock, or Enspelled Plate Armor with Shield for a paladin. One of the best parts about Enspelled Armor is that it’s also an example of the type of armor that players can create using thenew magic item crafting rulesfound in theDungeon Master’s Guide.
1Potion Of Greater Invisibility
Potion, Very Rare
The Potion of Greater Invisibility is one of the most powerful new magic items in the 2024Dungeon Master’s Guide. Typical Potions of Invisibility lose their effect after a player makes an attack roll, deals damage, or casts a spell. This makes invisibility a great tool for infiltration, but not necessarily for prolonged combat. The Potion of Greater Invisibility comes with no such drawbacks.
Players simply gain the Invisible condition for an hour, giving the player advantage on attack rolls and initiative rolls and forcing disadvantage on attack rolls made against them. This is a perfect tool not only for rogues, but for anyDungeons & Dragonsplayer. The only downside is that, as a consumable item, it can only be used one time.
