In a newly released trailer forUltimate Wolverine #1(included after the next paragraph), Marvel revealsColossus will fight the new hero wielding a gigantic Gatling gun. It’s a huge weapon that can only be used effectively because of Colossus' superhuman strength, and sets him apart fromother heroes like Juggernaut, the Hulk and the Thing, who tend to trade punches rather than using weaponry.

Ultimate Wolverinetakes place in Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe. This timeline was created in 2023 by the Maker - a genius supervillain who used his knowledge of Marvel’s mainstream lore to claim an alternate dimension, bending the timeline to his will. The Maker made sure that the heroes who might have opposed him were either killed, depowered, or corrupted. He assembled the worst of the worst into his Maker’s Council, with former heroes like Hulk, Magik and Colossus holding dominion over different territories.
So far, little is known of Colossus' role on the Maker’s Council, howeverit’s been implied that he may rule over a secret nation of mutants, who are essentially unheard of by the general populace of the Ultimate Universe. Since the publication ofPeach Momoko and Travis Lanham’sUltimate X-Men, fans have been wondering what happened to the classic heroes, since it’s clear the team never came together in this timeline. Colossus' nation may be the answer, with the existence of the Ultimate Wolverine implying that he offers up his subjects as living weapons to serve the Maker’s agenda.
Hopefully,Ultimate Wolverinewill see Colossus' greatest soldier and assassin break free of his control, becoming an unexpected hero in a world badly in need of them. If so, thenWolverinealready has his nemesis, as Colossus gets an evil upgrade, complete with an entire nation under his sway and a gigantic gun that he’s strong enough to use to devastating effect. Fans will only find out the full story when the series begins (hopefully explaining what it took to corruptColossusin this timeline), but the promise of evilX-Menweaponizing their powers is already guaranteeing an intense adventure.
