WhileCivilization 7has many viable leaders for a Military Victory, Charlemagne ranks among the most powerful. He can amass a huge cavalry thanks to his Father of Europe ability, which grants two free Cavalry Units and gives all Cavalry Units +5 Combat Strength each time he enters a Celebration. Additionally, he can boost Happiness via Military and Science buildings with the goal of having as many Celebrations as possible. The civilizations that best enhance Charlemagne’s ability are Persia in the Antiquity Age, Mongolia in the Exploration Age, and Prussia in the Modern Age.

Charlemagne should pursue Happiness in order to maximize Celebrations and offset any War Weariness accrued while waging wars across the Ages. Each of these Civilization choices also offers excellent Gold bonuses that Charlemagne can use to either strategically bolster his Army ordevelop towns/cities inCiv 7more quickly. If it’s available, the Lion Capital Memento synergizes very well with Charlemagne’s focus on Celebrations, and, of course, Joyeuse, which provides +2 Happiness per Cavalry unit.

Persian Immortals & Charlemagne’s Cavalry Are A Deadly Combination

To get Charlemagne set up forMilitary Victory inCiv 7, select Persia and start work toward the Pax Imperatoria Legacy Path by founding new or conquering existing Settlements. Charlemagne should prioritize Happiness output, utilizing the Military/Science building adjacency bonus for Quarters from his Father of Europe ability.Happiness is the driver for Charlemagne’s Military successthroughout the Ages, as it’s needed for both Celebrations and to counter any War Weariness accumulated. Influence should be reserved to increase War Support for Charlemagne, and the Settlement cap should be increased as much as possible, all aiming to maximize Celebrations.

Gate of All Nations

Immortal units (the Persian unique infantry) also gain a +3 Combat Bonus from the Hamarana Council, and theHazarapatis Army Commanderstarts with the Initiative Promotion, allowing units to move after they unpack. Persia’s unique Civic Tree benefits these strategies substantially, such as the Persian Wonder, Gate of All Nations, which is very useful for helping balance War Weariness. With proper Military Strategy and effective Commander positioning, the combination of Immortals and buffed Cavalry units will make conquering Settlements much easier. Prioritize researching Iron Working if possible, as this will unlock the strongest units available to Charlemagne in this Age.

Mongolia & Charlemagne Conquer The Homeland

Mongolia and Charlemagne are an incredible combination, with Mongolia’s unique features boosting Cavalry units in various ways. First, the Bokh ability awards the strongest available Cavalry unit when Charlemagne captures an opposing Settlement. Secondly, the unique Keshig ranged unit is considered a Cavalry unit, ignores zone of control, and benefits from Charlemagne’s Father of Europe +5 Combat Strength buff. Additionally, Mongolia’s unique Noyan Army Commander provides a+50% Flanking bonus to Cavalry unitsin the command radius. Combined, these bonuses allow Charlemagne to produce an incredibly powerful Cavalry Army.

Erdene Zuu

More significantly,Mongolia does not acquire Non Sufficit Orbis points in the conventional way(i.e. the Distant Lands), but instead can gain points for conquering homeland Settlements, making it virtually unnecessary to travel to the Distant Lands at all. This is a best-case scenario for Charlemagne and Mongolia’s Cavalry, allowing land combat and invasion to be prioritized over Deep Ocean traversal and Distant Land exploration. Maintaining Happiness output in cities will fuel Celebrations, and Science research into Heraldry and Metal Casting will award more powerful units, which now occurs both when Charlemagne conquers a city and when he enters a Celebration.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Review: Rewriting History In Beautiful, Messy Strokes

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 evolves the defining 4x series with both elegant additions and imperfect changes, but the end results are still glorious.

This makes Religion a low priority. Civic research can be reserved for the Mongolian Civic Tree, which should be completed in its entirety at some point to maximize Cavalry buffs. These Civics will help increase Settlement limit as well, while theErdene Zuu Wonder provides a Culture bonuswhen a Cavalry unit is created and should be prioritized at some point during the Age.

Prussian Hussar Units Ensure A Charlemagne Military Victory

At this stage, Charlemagne should have pretty sour relationships with most Civs left, which will actually boost Combat Strength for all units in the Modern Age thanks to Prussia — which I found to be the ideal civilization choice for Charlemagne’s Military Victory.

Prussia’sBlood and Iron feature gives+1 Combat Strength for each unfriendly or worse relationship, which the unique Hussar units will benefit massively from, as well as Charlemagne’s ability. Hussars also get a combat boost for unspent movement points. Depending on how extensive Charlemagne’s domination of the homeland was in the Exploration Age, the Modern Age may require expansion into the Distant Lands.

You should establish Fascism as an Ideology as soon as possible, and start positioning Charlemagne’s armies strategically so that the targeted Settlement will be from an opposing Ideology. Based on my own playthrough, it may take some time for other Civs to establish their Ideologies, which can be used to produce enough higher-tier units to make an invasion simple.

Charlemagne’s homeland should be abundant with Settlements, and he shouldutilize Prussia’s Staatseisenbahn railroadsto move units and Commanders where they’re most useful. These unique Improvements increase Gold and Production on Rural tiles and are automatically placed when a Rail Station is constructed.

Civilization 7 Devs Share Why Players Should Play Through The Tutorial Even As A Civ Veteran

Longtime fans of the Sid Meier’s Civilization series may be excited to jump right into Civ 7, but developers warn that the tutorial is important.

After considering where the final Operation Ivy projects are going to be constructed, you should ensure the Settlement is well protected and developed. Most importantly, Prussia’s unique Civics are crucial to these war tactics, providing them useful bonuses. The Brandenburg Gate Wonder will completely negate all Happiness penaltiesfrom War Weariness, making it essential.

As the campaign nears its end, you should bolster Charlemagne’s ground infantry and cavalry with air support, using the Persian Stuka to annihilate ground forces. These strategies should complete theIdeology Legacy Pathquickly, giving Charlemagne a clear shot at the Manhattan Project and Operation Ivy, securing you a Military Victory inCivilization 7.
