Chicago P.D.season 12’s new series regular, portrayed by Toya Turner, has received fresh character details and a new image ahead of her debut in the police procedural.Chicago P.D.season 12comes after a major shift in the team, with longtime Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) leaving after the end of season 11. Showrunner Gwen Sigan offered more details about her,revealing Cook has years of experience on the force and “likes to run and gun"when approaching dangerous situations. The showrunner also revealed her honesty, explaining how it helps her fit into the team. She also addressed how she’s the first Black female Intelligence officer in the show, allowing for new story opportunities with her at the forefront. She’s very cool. She’s very different. She’s coming from patrol, which is nice. She’s not a brand-new officer. When we meet her, we’ll realize, ‘Oh, she’s been on the force for a few years,’ so we get to see that she knows her way around. She knows what she’s doing.
She’s certainly a character who speaks her mind. She has been through a lot within the police department and is looking for a place where she fits in and they do the job in the way that she loves to do the job, where they stand with integrity. And so, she’s going to find a family within the 21st.
[Cook being the first Black female Intelligence officer on the show], I think, is going to open up a lot of story for us, and give us a lot of great opportunities to tell stories maybe we haven’t gotten an opportunity to yet, or we haven’t gotten to dive into as deeply as we would like. It’s exciting, and great for the show.

Since her character description harkens back to her strong, confident role in the Netflix series, it seems like some familiar characterization could crop up as Cook becomes a valuable member of the team.
