Lo Trulgio Plays Ron, A Restaurant Critic Reviewing Jay’s Restaurant
InGhostsseason 4, episode 15, Jay nervously awaits the review of his new restaurant, Mahesh. The menu is Jay’s modern spin on the Indian foods he grew up eating. The ghosts had overheard the reviewer in the parking lot, soPete with his particular ghost power of leaving the propertyis sent to follow the critic and report back on the tone of the article. Pete is thrilled to report it is a rave review, but Trevor shares he had a hand in the review, or at least “a finger.”
Trevor felt he owed Jay sinceJay posed as Trevor inGhostsseason 4, episode 4, “The Work Retreat,” saving his remote finance job by pretending to be him at a mandatory in-person work retreat held at Woodstone Manor. Trevor used his ghost power to email the reviewer posing as an investor, offering him a bribe in exchange for a positive review. Pete is aghast and wants to tell Sam and Jay, but Trevor sees the quid-pro-quo as a win-win.

Jay is thrilled when he gets an advance copy of the article calling Mahesh “a revelation and a triumph.” However, the mention of “an upscale breastaurant” clues he into Trevor’s involvement, as only one person uses that term. Sam and Jay confront Trevor, who defends his “hero move.” Jay is upset because he wanted the critic’s honest opinion, not falsely-bought praise.
Ghosts Season 4, Episode 15 Emphasizes Sam’s Toxic Trait With 1 Unassuming Line (But She’s Changing)
For four and a half seasons of Ghosts, Sam’s toxic trait has caused problems, but the most recent episode shows she is growing as a person.
Jay invites Joe Lo Truglio’s character Ron back to Mahesh to apologize for his overeager investor, whom Ron clearly thinks is just Jay. Ron says he can’t give the money back, because he’s already spent it on a “pretty spicy weekend” with his girlfriend in the Poconos. Jay asks for a “do-over review,” which Ron says is not a thing in the world of restaurant critiques.Jay explains that he wants to know Ron’s authentic experience, and the food critic says he is the most honest guy he’s ever taken a bribe from.
The “do-over” review is posted, and Jay is thrilled to see hardly a word is changed. Mahesh is praised as “innovative, surprising in all the best ways… a game changer.” Jay and his staff are celebrating when they hear a crash. A stripper has skydived through the roof, an unwelcome development for the recently-opened restaurant.
Lo Truglio’s Role As Ron Is Reminiscent Of Boyle From Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Charles Boyle Was A Foodie & Culinary Blogger
Joe Lo Truglio’s guest appearance inGhostsseason 4, episode 15 as restaurant critic Ron feels likea playful tribute to his iconicBrooklyn Nine-Ninecharacter, Charles Boyle. Ron only appears in one scene, but it’s easy to imagine that Boyle would be a food critic himself in another life, as his passion for all things culinary was one of his defining traits.
Season 1, Episode 16
The Party
Boyle is instructed to only discuss fine dining at a dinner party, leading him to make a romantic connection with another foodie.
Season 2, Episode 9
The Road Trip
Captain Holt recruits Boyle for a cooking lesson to make an anniversary breakfast for his husband.
The Negotiation
Boyle opens a food truck with Amy Santiago’s financial investment.
Boyle’s deep love for food was legendary, from running his own food blog where he ranked local pizzerias on criteria including“mouthfeel”to briefly running his own food truckBrooklyn Nine-Nineseason 5. Boyle’s culinary expertise made him the squad’s go-to for restaurant recommendations, and Captain Holt requested his help for cooking lessons as part of an anniversary surprise for his husband. Boyle even met his life partner over their shared love of takoyaki, fried octopus balls Jake Peralta mistook for donut holes.
Lo Truglio’s role inGhoststurns Boyle’s signature obsession into Ron’s actual job, although as a cop, Jake’s best friend would never accept a bribe. ForBrooklyn Nine-Ninefans, Lo Truglio’s Ghost cameo offers a fun reminder of Boyle’s culinary expertise and passion.
Can Lo Truglio’s Ron Return In Ghosts?
I Expect To See Ron Return For Jay’s Restaurant Re-Opening
Ghostshas a strong track record of bringing back memorable supporting characters, like the Farnsbys next door or Isaac’s dream“sculpted dinosaur aficionado,”stripper Chris.Ghostsseason 4, episode 15’s chaotic endingleaves the door wide open for Ron’s return. With Chris crash-diving through the bistro’s roof, Mahesh will undoubtedly need a second opening, which is an ideal opportunity to invite Ron back for another review. Even without a second opening, Ron could easily return for a special event like a prix fixe holiday menu or a themed dinner.

Additionally,Ron seemed intrigued by Trevor’s suggestion of an “upscale breastaurant,” like a Hooter’s but “even classier,” in the Hudson Valley. Ron even pitched a name Trevor loved: “Mountains of the Valley.” WithGhostsrenewed for seasons 5and 6, I can imagine Trevor finding a way to finance Mountains of the Valley - and Ron would love to review. While Lo Truglio’s cameo inGhostswas brief, the show laid the groundwork for Ron to become a recurring presence.
