Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warpart 3, episode #5is looking to be a desperate situation, as Ichigo and his friends have seemingly been defeated by Uryu and Yhwach’s elite guards. Even Ukitake’s ritual seems to have failed, and Yhwach has absorbed the powers of the Soul King.

Episode #4 featured a new, extended fight sequence between Uryu and Ichigo, with Uryu using a transformation he never got to use in the manga: the Quincy Voll Stern Dich (or “Vollstandig,” as many fans know it). The fight sequence made the confrontation between Ichigo and his former friend all the more heartbreaking, as Ichigo took more time to plead with Uryu to see the light. Chad, Orihime, and Ganju also had a bit of an extended showdown with Yhwach’s elite guards, although they didn’t fare particularly well against this group of powerful Quincy.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warpart 3debuts new episodes on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus internationally, each Saturday at 7:30 AM Pacific Time/10:30 AM Eastern Time.As a result, fans should be able to expect episode #5 to be released at 7:30 AM PT/10:30AM ET on July 15, 2025.Since new episodes are released on streaming close to their Japanese airing times, the new episode will only be available in Japanese with subtitles initially. What Happened in Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, Episode #4?

The Soul King is No More…

In episode #4, Ichigo and his allies hoped to help Ukitake stabilize the Soul King, after the captain sacrificed himself to Mimihagi, the right hand of the Soul King, in order tobecome the new Soul King. However, Yoruichi’s defenses were disrupted by an attack from Parnkgjas, mutilating her arms, exposing the Soul King to Yhwach’s onslaught. Yhwach was able to even overpower Mimihagi, despite powerful resistance, and absorbed its power before moving on to the remnants of the Soul King himself.

Meanwhile, Ichigo faced down Uryu, pitting the two friends directly against one another. Uryu didn’t hold back, using the Voll Stern Dich/Vollstandig technique to overwhelm Ichigo with attacks. Ichigo did his best, but his unwillingness to hurt his former friend held him back and gave Uryu the edge in battle. Ichigo was last seen plummeting from the skies around the Soul King’s Palace as Uryu was praised by his Quincy comrades for making short work of his foe. Orihime, Ganju, and Chad didn’t fare much better in their fight with the other Quincy elite, leaving no one to stand in Yhwach’s way.

The Quincy Survivors Aren’t Happy with Yhwach

Episode #5 ofThousand-Year Blood Waris entitled “Against the Judgement.” This happens to be the title of chapter #623 in the manga, indicating precisely what from the manga the episode will be covering. The focus will return to Aizen, who has now been freed by Captain Kyoraku and brought up to the surface. As it turns out, the Quincy presence on the ground in the Soul Society wasn’t entirely wiped out by Yhwach’s Auswahlen, leaving a handful of survivors who still have some power at their disposal. But with their boss having tried to kill them, will the Quincy really still be interested in fighting?

Ichigo’s group will be recovering from the loss they just sustained, trying to regroup and come up with a new plan of attack to take down Yhwach. They may even finally receive some long-awaited help from a mysterious ally, whose presence so far has only been hinted at. An interesting fact to realize is that Uryu saw Ichigo use the Blut Vene technique, revealinghis connection to the Quincy to Uryu. Just how Uryu might react to this information will be interesting to see, as this reveal was a direct result of the new fight that wasn’t in the manga.

With Yhwach having absorbed the Soul King’s powers, the situation has reached a new level of desperation. The keystone of the three worlds is missing, and the tremors will soon resume, signaling the end of the current reality. Everything is coming down to these next few minutes inBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, so one can only hope the Soul Reapers find their way to the Soul King’s Palace sooner rather than later.
