Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies game mode has been well received by new and longtime players alike, leading to comparisons with the very best that the undead shooter has offered over the last 16 years. Due to the well-crafted and intricate designs of the launch maps, Terminus and Liberty Falls, fans eagerly awaited any news on what could be next. After the teaser of the massiveSeason 1 updatecoming November 14,fans got an idea of the newly revealed map, Citadelle des Morts.

Much of the information concerning this new map is unavailable, but Treyarch has revealed that it’s a continuation of the main Easter Egg questline in Terminus as the crew heads to Europe. The current information reveals that it will feature an abandoned castle, a medieval village, and more undead horror. This setting drew some excitable suggestions thatit may be a remake ofBlack Ops 3’s Der Eisendrache map from 2015,but looking into this theory provides uncertainty as Citadelle des Morts will most likely be its own unique experience.

Why Citadelle Des Morts Could Be Der Eisendrache

The Same Area May Feature In Both Maps

The only available visuals for Citadelle des Morts currently is a poster showing the exterior of the castle. Its abandonment has resulted in a menacing looking degradation of many of its structures. The comparison to Der Eisendrache comes from the inclusion of a medieval castlein both settings, which can be observed in their respective promotional images, the first two in the gallery above.

A major theory from fans as to why this could be a remake or reinterpretation of Der Eisendrache is in the courtyard featured in the bottom right of the Citadelle des Morts image. The area featuring the GobbleGum machine is incredibly similar to the location of the Double TapPerk-A-Colain Der Eisendrache. Fans have considered whether parts of the 2015 map will be reimagined in the Citadelle, this time in an Arthurian castle, as opposed to the previous Bavarian design. Aside from this, there lacks any credible evidence that Citadelle des Morts is a remake.

Why It Likely Won’t Be Der Eisendrache

Developers Are Focused On The Future Of Zombies

There is no narrative reason for Citadelle des Morts and Der Eisendrache to be linked. The storyline for the latter featured characters like Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai, on the quest for the Apothicons and Element 115. Nothing that has been featured inLiberty Falls and Terminussuggests that the lore of the older Aether storyline will connect to the modern Dark Aether narrative.Black Ops 6Zombies looks instead to create its own lore by moving to the future, as opposed to the past, of the game mode.

Every Enemy In Black Ops 6 Zombies, Ranked By Difficulty

Black Ops 6 Zombies features some challenging enemies, and there’s a world of difference between the hardest foes and the cannon fodder.

Unless explicitly marketed as reimaginings, such as The Giant inBlack Ops 3being a remake of Der Riese fromWorld at War,it’s highly unlikely that fans will see a reinterpration of Der Eisendrache in Citadelle des Morts. Instead, they can anticipate something original, which indicates the intent todeliver new experiences in Zombies, by utilizing the modernCall of Dutygame engine, and continuing the Dark Aether storyline inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6.
