An unsolved mystery from its predecessor resurfaced inBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, and once again, no answer was apparent. Bio-exorcist Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) reprises his favorite role of haunting Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). Only now, she is a mother herself to angsty teen Astrid (Jenna Ortega). The Deetzs familymight have thought Betelgeuse was dead and buried at the end of the original 1988Beetlejuicefilm. Not only is he back, he has the same goal of making Lydia his eternal bride.Betelgeuse will do anything to make his dream come true, no matter how deadly.
Betelgeuse is not the most patient groom-to-be, however. In both movies, Betelgeuse makes minor characters disappear, seemingly to their deaths after slight annoyances. But it is not clear if they actually died at first. Even though it appeared Betelgeuse killed two dinner guests in the original movie after he sent them flying through the ceiling,Beetlejuice 2confirms at least one of them actually survived. This raises questions about the fates ofthe influencers who Betelegeuse trapped into their own phones at his second wedding to Lydia.

Beetlejuice 2’s Ending Doesn’t Confirm Whether Betelgeuse Actually Killed The Influencers
(Just Like The 1988 Movie’s Dinner Guests)
Betelgeuse wasn’t the only character to torment the Deetzs. Charles Deetz’s boss, Maxie Dean, hoped to turn the whole town of Winter River into a tourist trap for supernatural delights.Fittingly, he got a supernatural ending when he and his wife Sarah flew through the roof of the Deetzs' living room, thanks to Betelgeuse. Their deaths were up in the air for the last 36 years, untilBeetlejuice 2confirmed this original character did survive. During Charles’s funeral, a grieving Delia mentions sheexpects Maxie Dean to attend her husband’s funeral, meaning he survived his trip through the Deetz’s roof.
Going by the logic ofBeetlejuice 2revealing Maxie Dean’s fate, it may take untilBeetlejuice 3to find out if the 20-somethings too survived.

Jump forward toBeetlejuice 2, when Rory (Justin Theroux), invites the biggest influencers in the world to capture the nuptials between him and Lydia. The joke is on him when Betelgeuse hijacks the nuptials and the bride for himself. He also gruesomely has all of the social media stars swallowed up by their own phones. But theaudience never sees the TikTokers pop back out of their phones. Going by the logic ofBeetlejuice 2revealing Maxie Dean’s fate, it may take untilBeetlejuice 3to find out if the 20-somethings too survived.
Beetlejuice 2’s Kill Count Is Already Far Higher Than The Original Movie
Only Barbara and Adam Died In The First Movie
For all of the gothic chaos in the the firstBeetlejuicemovie, only Barbara and Adam (the ghosts haunting the Deetz) actually die.The death toll has increased drastically in the sequel, starting with Charles death in the opening. His wife follows not long after when a poisonous snake bites her. Even characters who were already dead were killed.Danny Devito delivered a surprising cameoas a janitor in the Neitherworld, who gets his soul sucked from the demonic Delores (Monica Bellucci). We even see her death on screen in a flashback where Betelgeuse kills her shortly after they wed.
How Beetlejuice 2 Filmed Delores’ Resurrection Sequence
A Beetlejuice 2 special feature explains how Tim Burton filmed Delores' resurrection sequence and involves methods from Wednesday’s Thing.
Among the most memorable deaths inBeetlejuice Beetlejuicebelong to the bad boyfriends.Rory was eaten alive by a giant Sandworm with Delores. But theevil twist of Astrid’s love interest Jeremyactually being a serial-killing ghost who wants to exchange her life for his, made his death even more enjoyable. Considering the rules of the afterlife are a bit murky in theBeetlejuiceworld, it would not be surprising if any of the “dead” characters come back to life in some shape or form in the future. That is Betelgeuse’s specialty after all.
