Another DC Studios movie is being developed, this time featuring two of Batman’s greatestDCvillains. While the already-announcedDC Universe’s Chapter 1 movies and TV showsare still in the works, fans are always curious to learn what other properties DC Studios will tackle. With DC Studios having put bigger focuses lately on villains, like Colin Farrell’s new HBO seriesThe Penguinand Joaquin Phoenix’s sequelJoker: Folie à Deux, it appears more Batman baddies are getting the spotlight in live-action.
The Hollywood Reporterreveals thatDC Studios is developing a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie. While a director is currently not attached,Matthew Orton (Captain America: Brave New World) has developed a screenplaythat DC Studios is using, with the filmmaker search likely happening further down the line. Neither DC Studios nor James Gunn have commented on the report as of publication.
What The Bane And Deathstroke Movie News Means
As exciting as a team-up film with Deathstroke and Bane is, there are a lot of questions left unanswered from this DC Studios report. Even though Gunn and Peter Safran are attached as producers, according toDeadline,it is unclear if this new project is meant to take place in the new DC Universe or if it exists outside the upcoming continuity. This could very well be another instance where DC Studios will lean into the Elseworlds banner with no ties to the DC Universe franchise, includingThe Brave and The Boldmoviethat will be a fresh take on Batman.
If the Bane and Deathstroke project is actually tied toGunn’s DC Universe,it wouldn’t be shocking if this was a semi-replacement for the canceledArkham AsylumTV show that was set to be part of the new franchise. While not taking place in Arkham Asylum, the team-up movie could serve as a new villain-led property that can help extend Batman’s mythology in Gunn’s continuity. But until Gunn and DC Studios comment, time will tell what the Bane and Deathstroke film will actually be for DC Studios.
Our Take On The Bane And Deathstroke Movie
While this was certainly a surprise move from DC Studios,it’s great to see them wanting to invest more time into characters like Bane and Deathstroke. After Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke film got stuck in development hell, this is making up for it when it comes to Slade Wilson. Further, the movie can also finally do a comic book-accurate version of Bane in live-action. Hopefully, moreDCdetails on the Bane and Deathstroke movie will emerge sooner rather than later.
