Batman & Robin Debut Their New Underwater Aquatic Suits (& They’re Beyond Epic)

Batman / Superman: World’s Finest#35 kicks off with the heroes receiving a distress call from Atlantis before the comic quickly transitions to them fully suited up and underwater. While Superman and Aquaman stick to their usual attire, the Dynamic Duo debuts water-friendly versions of their suits.Batman’s aquatic suit features a cowl that covers his entire face, reminiscent of theBatman Beyondsuit worn by Terry McGinnis.Additionally, Bruce’s suit has a breathing apparatus on his back with tubes leading into the front of his mask. There are also notable adjustments to his armor, likely designed to improve mobility underwater.

Similarly, Robin’s suit has a breathing apparatus and slight tweaks to his armor to enhance his movement. However, the most striking change is that he trades his iconic domino mask for a full face covering. Thanks to the bright red and green colors, along with the skin-tight design, the mask resembles a máscara—a mask typically worn by wrestlers in lucha libre (traditional Mexican wrestling)—similar to the design inspiration for Bane’s mask in many interpretations of the character. Seeing Robin in a full-face mask is a jarring departure from his usual look, but it’s undeniably epic.
