With the addition of official mod support,the studio has placed the onus of continuing the game’s development (in an unofficial capacity) into the hands of the modding community,a challenge that has been met with aplomb. On Nexus Mods,Baldur’s Gate 3now boasts more mod downloads thanFallout 3,a game that’s over a decade its senior.

Of course, modding won’t provide the sequel many fans desperately want to see but whether or not such a project will ever come to pass remains to be seen.Dungeons & Dragonsowner Wizards of the Coast has insisted that it’s interested in furthering the franchise with a different studioat the helm but there’s no word on how the search for a new developer is going. Some have suggested that RPG legendObsidian Entertainment take on the mantle ofBaldur’s Gate 4but that’s simply a suggestion with a great deal of community support.
