WithoutBatmanthere simply wouldn’t be aNightwing. When Dick Grayson’s parents were killed in front of him, Bruce Wayne was in the audience. This moment tied their futures together forever, but it seems that in the Absolute Universe, Dick Grayson might become a hero entirely separate from Batman.

The Absolute Universeis one of the most exciting things to come out of DC Comics in recent years and plenty of fans want to know what changes will be made to their favorite characters. One of the biggest questions has been about Robin in this new universe. Will it still be the iconic Dick Grayson and the origin fans know and love? Recently, the lead writer forAbsolute Batman#1 gave some insight into this question.

While answering fan questions on Twitter/X, Scott Snyder responded to a fan’s idea aboutNightwing and Red Hoodbeing completely separate heroes from Batman. Surprisingly, Scott Snyder responded that he has had many similar ideas in the same vein, which could give fans a version of Nightwing unlike anything they’ve seen before.

Nightwing Doesn’t Really Work With Absolute Batman

Absolute Batman#1 by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta

There have been tons of lore changes to this new version of Batman. Two of the biggest being both his age and the fact that his mother is still alive. Combine that with the fact that this Bruce Wayne is a city engineer, not a multi-billionaire, and the traditional idea of Robin doesn’t really work. The only reason Dick Grayson was able to move in with Bruce in the Prime Universe was due to the latter’s obscene wealth. It’s very unlikely that this version of Bruce Wayne will be getting front row seats to a major circus show anytime soon, and this might actually be a great thing.

Scott Snyder has the chance to truly see who Dick Grayson would’ve become without the influence of Bruce Wayne.

The Absolute Universe offers writers like Scott Snyder the freedom to do pretty much whatever they want. There have already been some major interesting creative choices, such as swapping the positions of Bruce Wayne and the Joker, making Joker the privileged and wealthy individual who travels the world to learn skills. Likewise, both Nightwing and Red Hood could end up as heroes who were inspired by Batman’s reputation, or people who were unrelated to him entirely.Scott Snyder has the chance to truly see who Dick Grayson would’ve become without the influence of Bruce Wayne.

Nightwing Would Be An Entirely Different Man Without Batman

Will He Still Be As Heroic As The Prime Universe Version?

Dick Grayson became a hero because of the opportunities that Bruce Wayne was able to give him. Without those opportunities, just what kind of hero will Nightwing grow into? Considering how young Absolute Batman is as well, they’ll likely bemuchcloser in age. This means that Nightwing and Batman could meet as brothers, instead of father and son. While much ofNightwing’s history and future is unknown inBatman’sstory, one thing is for sure, it’ll be unlike anything fans have ever seen before.

Nightwing

Nightwing is the superhero moniker taken up by Dick Grayson, upon his aging out of the Robin role and becoming a superhero of his own. Inspired by the original Kryptonian hero of the same name, Grayson has risen to comic book immortality with the identity, earning respect as one of the greatest leaders in the DC Universe.
