Supermanis going to have a big year in 2025, and the character has already appeared in aDCproject that shows the value in the most underrated version of the Man of Steel. There have been manylive-action versions of Superman, both in TV and movies. 2025 will mark another reboot of the character on the big screen.David Corenswet’s Supermanflies into theaters on July 11. Last year,Superman & Loisconcluded with season 4, showing how Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel lost his powers, grew old, and eventually died.
That was a different kind of Superman story than fans are normally used to seeing. It reiterated that there are always going to be new ways of using DC’s premiere hero while also keeping classic elements alive. Besides live-action portrayals, there are also manySuperman animated series, with the character also showing up in quite a few animated films.Superman is a hero who can thrive in any medium he appears in, and 2025 will allow fans to see two very different sides of the character, one in each medium. Before theDCU’s Chapter One, another franchise has used Superman.

2025 Confirms James Wolk Is The Most Underrated Superman In Recent History
Superman Returns To Animation With An Interesting Arc
While David Corenswet will play Superman in the DCU’s live-action reboot of the character,James Wolk voices the Man of Steel inHarley Quinnseason 5. The animated series might be flying under the radar due to the excitement for the new DC Universe, which recently had its own TV-MA animated project,Creature Commandos, conclude in exciting fashion. However, there is a reason whyHarley Quinnhas managed to make it to five seasons so far, and that is because the show delivers fun, compelling portrayals of popular DC characters in a lived-in universe.
James Wolk is no stranger to DC. He has appeared in live-action and animated projects for the comic book giant. Wolk played Joe Keene Jr. in HBO’sWatchmen. His character was a power-hungry senator who tried to take Dr. Manhattan’s powers for himself but ended up being dissolved into a pool of liquid. His biggest DC role comes in animation, asWolk has been voicing Superman sinceHarley Quinnseason 1. With his return in season 5, Wolk now has six years as Superman under his belt, but I don’t think he is nearly as remembered as he should be.

Why James Wolk’s Superman Is Perfect For DC & Harley Quinn
Season 5 Gives Superman A New Storyline
James Wolk’s Superman plays a good role in theHarley Quinnseason 5 premiere. The DC series spent its first four seasons focusing on Harley and Poison Ivy’s adventures in Gotham City. However, season 5 decided to shake up the show’s status quo. Tired of Gotham and its issues, the duo goes to Metropolis for the Superman Museum’s opening. That allows the irreverent animated series to bring forward some classic characters from Superman’s world, such as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Lena Luthor, and Clark Kent himself. However, Superman is not happy.
Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 1 Review: Brainiac’s Debut Promises To Give DC’s Animated Series A Much-Needed Boost
Harley Quinn season 5 is off to a great start as the DC series moves from Gotham City to Metropolis and introduces exciting new players.
While Harley hoped to receive a thank you from the Man of Steel due to having saved his life in theHarley Quinnseason 4 finale, she encountered a fragile Superman. Due to drones that had modernized Metropolis and were keeping the peace,Superman no longer felt like he was needed by the citizens of the City of Tomorrow. Harley decides to embrace her psychiatrist side and once again saves Superman’s life, but this time by tending to his mental health, with the hero taking a sabbatical to find himself. Wolk makes Superman funny, relatable, and easy to root for.

Harley Quinn’s Superman Shows How The Classic Take On The DC Hero Can Be Made Fresh
Superman Defined What It Means To Be A Superhero
Wolk’s portrayal of Superman is great and perfectly fitsHarley Quinn’s world. First and foremost, due to the show being a comedy series, Wolk plays Superman’s existential crisis in a way that I find both dramatic and funny. However, there is alsoan underlying earnestness to it all that is just classic Superman. It is hard to make a character like the Man of Steel fit into the context of the TV-MA series without making him the butt of jokes. However, Wolk perfectly walks the line between making Superman look goofy and also a hero impossible not to root for.

Superman was created in 1938. Since then, there have been countless adaptations of the character across a wide array of mediums. For a hero who has been used as much as he has, new projects should always strive to find a fresh way of dealing with the character.Harley Quinndoes just that by giving Superman an existential crisis after Metropolis has no more crime and sending him off to find himself while Harley and Ivy stay in the city to take care of it. I think James Wolk does a great job withSuperman, and his version is underrated.
