InBaldur’s Gate 3, player characters can talk to Withers, an NPC who arrives in their camp in Act One, to respec their class into something different. The companions of Baldur’s Gate 3 have set canon classes already, but any of them can change their class in the same way that the player character is able to.Baldur’s Gate 3’sexperience is heavily customizable, and unlike the approach taken by many other games, none of the companion’s stats or classes are set in stone.
With this in mind, fans of the game have played for hours to try and get the most effective builds that still stay true to the character. However, there are some classes that players likely would never want to give to certain characters. Here are some of the funniest and most out-of-character ways players can respec their companions in Baldur’s Gate 3.

10Gale As A Druid
Any Burrow Is A Gale-Sized Hole
There’s always an irony when reclassing Gale into a different type of spellcaster— many will remember his famous conversation where he queries the player about whether they’re versed in magic or not, delivering a delicate insult to the player’s chosen way of spellcasting if they’re not a wizard. The druid is one of the most nonsensical choices for Gale, but it would have some of the funniest outcomes. Primarily, Gale having Wild Shape would make for some funny implications. With the cat Wild Shape form, everyburrow hole and crevicein the game would become a Gale-sized hole.
Will Patch 8 Be Baldur’s Gate 3’s Final Update?
The upcoming update for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to be huge, but it may be marking the final stretch for Larian continuing to work on the game.
He would also have more synergy with his feline friend, Tara, if he were able to take on a similar form to her. In general, it’s quite humorous to imagine Gale using a different kind of magic. With all things considered,Gale is probably the least likely character players would expect to find crawling around as a spider.

9Minsc As A Wizard
It’s Time For Minsc To Master His “Wizard-Talk”
Minsc attempting wizard spells is a positively endearing and comical thought. Minsc and Gale have several interactions where Minsc tries to convince Gale that the sword is a greater weapon than a wizard’s words, though obviously to no avail. He also dismisses more eloquent words as “wizard talk,” as some of his dialogue about Gale is about him trying to teach Minsc how to say"posterior,“while Minsc adamantly refuses. The only thing Minsc finds interesting about Gale has nothing to do with his wizardry: the bomb in his chest.
How Minsc Is Still Alive In Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place over a century after its predecessor and Minsc, despite being human, is somehow in both thanks to some tomfoolery.
Minsc is very much the type to punch first and ask questions later. He is very similar to a typical barbarian, though there isgood reason for him being a ranger.Overall, he is the exact opposite of what someone would expect a wizard to be. It’s as he says himself —“Life is simple, and so is Minsc.”

8Astarion As A Druid
Astarion’s Night Time Hunts Just Got A Lot More Awkward
Astarion being a druid would be incredibly inconvenient for him. Astarion has a unique line of dialogue to reflect this the morning after he reveals his vampiric nature by trying tobite the player character, as long as the character happens to be a druid. This interaction is shown in a Tiktok video byEkan Kelly. If the player inquires about how to feed him, but then tells him that he can only feed on animals and then nothing that can think,Astarion will become exasperated and point out how they can “literally talk to animals.”
He then asks if that would leave him with rocks and trees, which is rather ironic given howspeak with plantsis a real spell inDungeons & Dragons.Astarion being able to talk to the animals he hunts would surely make for some awkward conversations. He also just seems to have a dismissive attitude towards druids in general, having a voice line where he mocks Halsin for “enjoying the freedom of nature’s gifts.”

7Lae’zel As A Bard
A Hardened Warrior Playing The Drums
Out of every class in the game, the bard is the most ridiculous choice for Lae’zel. It’s difficult to see her as any kind of performer, and it’s hard to say that her charisma would be appreciated anywhere outside of Creche K’liir. This battle-hardened warrioris by far the last person anyone would expect to pick up an instrument to play a whimsical tune with. With that being said though, even when not classed as a bard, Lae’zel is used to dishing outvicious mockery.
6Gale As A Sorcerer
Wizards & Sorcerers Are Both Spellcasters, But With Very Different Ideals
Respeccing Gale as a sorcerer is similar to turning him into a druid, but it feels a lot more personally insulting towards him. Though there is nothing wrong with the subclass, wizards and sorcerers are known to come from very different backgrounds.Gale definitely seems to have a sense of superiority about his magical prowess due to his ambitious nature and hisstatus as Mystra’s chosen.
Baldur’s Gate 3: All Secret Minions (& Where to Find Them)
Scratch and the Owlbear Cub aren’t the only NPC pets and minions players can recruit in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here’s how to get every hidden Minion.
The sorcerer class has some of the most banter when it comes to dialogue with Gale, especially the Wild Magic subclass. Userviicstarkon TikTok shared a clip of the game where the player can share one of their wild magic stories, and Gale immediately tears it apart. For a wizard like Gale who is very proud of his studious endeavors when it comes to magical knowledge,he would definitely be disappointed with players who choose to turn him into a sorcerer.

5Minthara As A Wizard
The Class Minthara Has The Most Distaste For
Minthara is known in theBaldur’s Gate 3fanbase for having a distaste towards wizards. She calls them “poor conversationalists,” and expresses a very dismissive nature towards Gale. If the player chooses to ask her opinion on Gale, her initial response is"The wizard? No.”
Minthara will still respect the player if they have chosen the wizard class, but will make it abundantly clear that the player is an outlier, and she still thinks very poorly of wizards in general.

This isn’tan isolated incident, and Minthara uses “wizard” frequently as a way to refer to Gale in an insulting manner. Her disdain towards wizards stems from how she views them as weak, as they don’t tend to last long in battle — likely based on theDungeons & Dragons clichéof wizards being “squishy” and unable to withstand much damage.
4Minsc As A Bard
Minsc Already Puts A Silly Spin On Bard Spells
If hearing Minsc attempt wizard spells is entertaining, Minsc performing bard spells is infinitely more so. Though it doesn’t exactly fit his fighting style, it’s not too far-fetched to imagine Minsc as a beloved performer, albeit maybe not a very effective one. This combination scores so highly becauseit actually has some unique content in the game. When casting vicious mockery, Minsc’s audio will be differentfrom the text shown, unlike any other character.
The Scrapped Origin Characters Of Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 has seven beloved origin characters, but in the earliest versions of the game, there were actually a few more.
He delivers the line in true Minsc fashion, saying “mouthier than a butt” instead of the usual line of one of the vicious mockery insults, which can be seen inSaretz’s video on Youtube. This isn’t done in an effort not to swear, as he does so less than a second later. Though a bard Minsc is a bit of a ridiculous thought, the fact that Larian has details as minuscule as this to make sure the companions are constantly staying in character is remarkable.
3Shadowheart As A Ranger
Shadowheart Might Be Scared Of Her Own Companions
Shadowheart as a Beast Master ranger can be interpreted in two different ways. If Shadowheart becomes a Selûnite and moves into a cottage with her parents and gigantic array of animals, thenit could be interpreting her calling forth her army of animal friends to her command, almost old-school Disney princess style. Were she not a cleric, this class would actually be surprisingly fitting for her after the events of the game.
One of Shadowheart’s character traits is thatshe is deathly afraid of wolves at the start of the game.Having her be a Beast Master who summons wolves to fight by her side only to be afraid of them is an amusing and chaotic prospect. It could also be quite fun to imagine her as a Swarmkeeper ranger as well, which is one of the newestsubclasses coming in Patch 8 ofBaldur’s Gate 3.Who needs spirit guardians with a swarm of bees at their disposal?
2Karlach As A Rogue
Karlach Is The Least Sneaky Companion
There are two things thatRogues do bestinBaldur’s Gate 3— sneaking around and picking locks. However, Karlach is evidently not built for this type of activity. When hiding, some of her dialogue include her remarking about howshe “feels like a Rothé in a tea shop"and how she’s “not used to lying low” among other lines that imply that she’s unaccustomed to sticking to the shadows. When trying to pick a lock, she can exclaim “can’t I just break it?” In conclusion, Karlach would make a hilariously ineffective rogue.
1Gale As A Barbarian
The Most Well-Mannered Character Makes The Funniest Barbarian
If there’s one class that’s truly difficult to imagineBaldur’s Gate 3’sfavorite bookworm wizard as, it would be the barbarian. If the player does choose to make him into a barbarian for whatever reason,he has a much more awkward and less enthusiastic roar compared to the other characterswhen going into a rage. This is somehow perfectly fitting for his character, though a raging barbarian with aNetherese orb in his chestis a terrifying prospect.
10 NPCs In Baldur’s Gate 3 You Probably Didn’t Help Or Save
Just because these Baldur’s Gate 3 NPCs are unpopular or easy to miss doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be helped or saved — Yurgir has feelings too.
Much like how Minsc would be one of the funniest characters to give the wizard class, the funniest class to give to Gale would be the barbarian. If players want to make it even more ironic, they could choose the Wild Magic subclass. If a spellcaster that uses wild magic is a strange fit for Gale, then a melee, strength-based attacker would make even less sense.Baldur’s Gate 3allows players' creativity to run wild and do whatever they want with their companions, and a lot of these choices can result in hilarious implications.
