Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia: You’re Next

My Hero Academia: You’re Nexthas debuted outside of Japan, and the movie was another action-filled adventure for Deku and the rest of Class 1-A. Up against the evil villain known as Dark Might, a man who seems to share All Might’s appearance and powers, Deku and friends had their work cut out for them.

The movie featured many exciting moments from the first scene to the last, and introduced some interesting new characters with unique abilities all their own.To be a big moment doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be a fight scene, but many of the biggest moments are fights. These moments show characters putting their power to the test, or facing difficult parts of themselves or their lives. Ranking such moments can be difficult, but some clearly drew more of a response from fans and audience members than others.

10Stopping the Jailbreakers

Class 1-A is On the Job

The movie opens with Class 1-A split into three teams, performing clean-up operations to captureescaped villains that All for One released from prison. Each of the three teams gets a little something to do, but Deku’s team is obviously the most prominent. They’re able to take down the villain they’re after without much trouble, showcasing how far the students have come in training their skills and Quirks over the course of the series.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next North American Box Office Numbers Revealed

My Hero Academia: You’re Next has already proven itself to be an incredible success both in Japan and worldwide, with impressive box office numbers.

It’s an interesting peek into a task that Class 1-A must’ve been up to, but wasn’t shown in the anime proper.Cleaning up the jailbreakers would definitely be an important job before the final war breaks out, eliminating as many potential enemy combatants as possible to make that confrontation just a bit easier.

9Giulio’s Action Debut

Giulio Establishes a Complex Character Quickly

Giulio is an original character for the film. He’s first seen by Deku on a motorcycle at a distance, but the two don’t really come into contact until Deku is chasing down a villain with a hostage by the name of Genji.Giulio appears out of nowhere and attempts to kill Genji’s hostage, much to Deku’s shock. It’s already been shown at this point that Giulio is carrying a photo of the hostage girl, Anna, so they have some sort of preexisting relationship… but why would Giulio attempt to kill someone whose picture he carries around?

Deku becomes the idealistic voice on Giulio’s shoulder, encouraging him to find another way to put a stop to the abuse of Anna’s power other than killing her.

The moment excellently establishes the core conflict at the heart of Giulio’s character–that he loves this girl, but feels she must be stopped before something tremendously dangerous can happen.Deku becomes the idealistic voice on Giulio’s shoulder, encouraging him to find another way to put a stop to the abuse of Anna’s power other than killing her.

8Creating the Fortress

Dark Might Arrives in Style

Dark Might first appears and reclaims Anna, killing the villain who previously had her held hostage for betraying him.He then uses her powerin some way, and begins enshrouding the surrounding area in a brilliant light, which ends up absorbing Class 1-A and the huge number of innocent civilians who happened to be in a shelter nearby. However, the light doesn’t stop there, and begins reshaping the fabric of the city into a massive flying fortress under Dark Might’s control.

The scene is probably one of the most powerful uses of a Quirk ever seen in theMy Hero Academiafranchise, even putting stunts by All for One or Shigaraki to shame, with the exception of Shigaraki destroying Jaku City.Dark Might proves that he’s certainly not someone to be trifled with, but at this point, the heroes have no choice but to confront him.

7The Vestiges Save Deku

Deku is Saved from a Demon Slayer-esque Dream Sequence

As Deku and friends begin reaching the courtyard of the fortress, they discover that Dark Might’s henchwoman, Deborah Gorrini, has a “Day Dream” Quirk which can cause anyone she looks at to fall into an unconscious state, dreaming of something they wish were true.Deborah is using Anna’s Quirk on the civilians in search of compatible people, but isn’t finding any when Deku shows up.

She immediately tries to use her Quirk on Deku, Giulio, and Class 1-A, and sends most of them off into dreamland.

My Hero Academia Deku uses Overdrive with all of the other vestiges of One for All

Before Deku can fall too deeply into her trance, however, the vestiges of One for All’s previous usersappear and help him break her control, although he’s still not fully awake. This prevents Deku from ending up completely incapacitated, and allows him to visit Giulio in his dream, waking the cyborg butler up and breaking Deborah’s concentration, allowing everyone else to wake up as well.

6Class 1-A’s Heartbreaking Dreams

While Class 1-A is put to sleep by Deborah, the audience is given a glimpse of many of their dreams. While some, such as Cero’s, are about what you’d expect, others are downright heartbreaking. Iida dreams of fighting crime side-by-side with his brother, a dream that can never come true due to the injuries his brother sustained fighting Stain. Shoji dreams of the young girl who he saved from drowning, and actually being allowed to interact with her instead of being beaten for being a heteromorph.

The saddest, however, is Shoto Todoroki’s. Todoroki dreams of being invited to play with his siblings–including Toya.Endeavor and his mother are shown watching the children having fun, and it’s a peaceful, happy moment… the kind that Shoto never once got to experience growing up.

Deborah Gorrini uses her Quirk to put people to sleep.

5Deku Vs. Genji

Deku Battles the Kidnapping Villain

Deku is alerted to a villain in the nearby vicinity while out hunting jailbreakers with his team near the beginning of the film, and opts to go on ahead and put a stop to him alone. This villain is Genji, whose gluttonous Quirk gives him a mouth in his stomach. However,Deku arrives to find that Genji’s Quirk has seemingly evolved, now providing him with two additional mouthed appendages coming from his back.Deku heroically battles the villain, even as he attempts to break into a shelter where innocent people are hiding.

Deku’s fight with Genji is interrupted first by Giulio, and then by Dark Might’s subordinates, but what we get to see of it is a pretty exciting battle, especially as Genji uses Anna’s Quirk to enhance his power further.

Genji flees from Deku with Anna.

4Bakugo and Todoroki Vs. Jill and Hugo Gorrini

Bakugo and Todoroki Put in the Work

Bakugo and Todoroki have their share of moments in the film, but their greatest match-up is one that forces two of Class 1-A’s biggest guns to work together.Up against a pair of villains, one who uses teleportation (Jill) and one who uses telekinesis (Hugo), Bakugo and Todoroki have a hard time landing a single blow, as Jill is able to disappear and reappear before their attacks land.

This scene seems to tie in with theYou’re Nextprequel chapter released before the film, as in that prequel, Deku speculated how unstoppable Bakugo and Todoroki could be if they worked together, and this fight absolutely proved that.

3Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow Solo

Tokoyami Takes On An Army

When Deku, Todoroki, and Bakugo initially split off from the rest of the class, Tokoyami comes with them. However, as they travel through the fortress, monsters begin pouring out en masse, forcing Tokoyami to stay behind to take care of them. In a relatively dark and dungeon-like environment,Tokoyami is able to use Dark Shadow very effectively, and is shown to fight off a countless number of these monsters all by himself as the other three continue on to confront Dark Might.

Dark Shadow is often said to be incredibly powerful, and it isn’t often that fans get to see Tokoyami really let loose and use Dark Shadow to its fullest extent. It’s a good reminder that Class 1-A has some real powerhouses besides the main trio.

My Hero Academia: Tokoyami is fully possessed by Dark Shadow

2Dark Might’s Monstrous New Form

Dark Might Mutates Into a Monster Himself

Duringthe final confrontation with Dark Might, he once again attempts to use Anna’s power to enhance his own, but this time, Anna’s power goes out of control, causing Dark Might to morph into a terrible, monstrous creature. This Dark Might monster breaks free of the fortress and begins battling it out outdoors, going up against Bakugo, Deku, and Todoroki, while Giulio desperately attempts to help bring Anna’s Quirk under control.

Dark Might’s All Might appearance is revealed to be fake, a part of his Quirk’s ability to change things, and he’s effectively revealed as the monster he truly is.

1Deku’s Ultimate Smash

Deku Pulls Off A New Strongest Move

While battling against Dark Might, prior to his transformation,Deku delivers one of the greatest smashesin his entire heroing career, listing off almost every state or city in the US that has previously been used in a smash attack. It seems to be an even more powerful attack than the United States of World Smash, combining a variety of different techniques into one attack. Given that Deku is very nearly at his strongest in this movie, the attack wields a tremendous amount of power, making it easy to see how it could conquer power on All Might’s level.

Using an ultimate attack is always an exciting moment, but that’s doubly true when it’s an original technique just for the movie which hasn’t been seen before. This smash attack is both hilarious in its lengthy name and awesome to behold, ensuring it’s perhaps thebiggest moment fromMy Hero Academia: You’re Next.
